description
It is a two-storey house with guesthouse and swimming pool, for a total area of 330 m2 in a plot of 8000 m2 very close to Naousa, Paros. On the ground floor of the main building are designed 2 bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, living room, kitchen-dining room and utility rooms. An extra bedroom with office space is located on the first floor and communicates with the ground floor through an internal staircase. The guest house is connected with the house through a covered veranda, and operates autonomously as it consists of a bathroom, a kitchen, a living room and a bedroom. The fundamental concept for the exterior design was to harmoniously connect the natural environment with the configured space. In all stone elements, walls, benches and stairs, excavated stone has been used, giving scale and proportion to the facades, while its earth colours blend with the building and the natural surroundings. During the construction, the natural environment was not altered, the existing vegetation was retained and incorporated into the final result. Following the principles of bioclimatic design, outdoor protection from sun and airy spaces were created around the pool, as ideal relaxation points overlooking the sea and the sunset. In front of the white scenery created by the building's volumes and the wooden pergolas, lies the pool surface, like a small water canopy extending over the deep blue of the Aegean Sea. The perimeter of the swimming pool has been created by a corridor stratified with a traditional cement mortar and a channel with white pebbles for aesthetic reasons. A modern home must be designed taking into account the minimum environmental impact in relation to its energy needs. The position and shape of the building on the plot was therefore not accidental: for instance, the largest face of the house is oriented to the south for the collection of solar heat during the winter months. Wooden frames with modern thermal insulation, in combination with their glass surfaces, are work as a solar collector. Openings have been created on all sides of the building to provide air-through ventilation that helps to rejuvenate the indoor air with fresh one coming from the environment, especially useful during the summer months. For the heating of the house, an under-floor installation with a heat pump was implemented, helping to save a lot of energy. The interior of the building is dominated by white and grey colours. Ceilings made of solid wood in white colour, stratified with grey cement mortar. A modern kitchen features the traditional Cycladic style. The construction presents also built-in storage areas and a bench featuring traditional cement mortar used for the surface.
